Daniel Grossman, a member of the Uni High graduating class of 1999, currently works on the business side of medicine while also serving as an Emergency Medicine physician. During his time at Uni, Grossman was a part of Chorus, Madrigals, Subbie Buddies, and the Lounge Committee. Then, after graduating, he went on to study Biology and Management Studies at St. Olaf College before attending the University of Illinois' Medical Scholars Program, where he completed both an MD and an MBA. Following that, Grossman completed his residency in Emergency Medicine and fellowship in International Emergency Medicine at Stanford University.
After Stanford, Grossman joined Medtronic where he founded Medtronic Labs: a new business to launch products and services to address unmet healthcare needs of underserved patients in emerging geographies. He also began working in the Emergency Department at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. In 2017, Grossman suffered a spinal cord injury in a mountain biking accident that left him paralyzed from the mid-abdomen down. After months of in-patient rehabilitation and physical therapy buoyed by an incredible support system, Grossman returned to his practice of Emergency Medicine within six months of his accident. Looking back, Grossman notes how his own injury helped him to better understand the needs of his patients during the acute and post-acute phase of illness and trauma. In addition to his work at Mayo Clinic, Grossman has consulted for and held leadership roles in various healthcare businesses and was most recently Chief Medical Officer at Best Buy.
